How to Manage Calla Lily Summer

Calla lilies are beautiful summer flowers that bloom in April and May. After flowering, their leaves gradually begin to wilt, which is a natural and normal physiological process. Once the leaves turn yellow, it's important to move the pots to a shaded area to protect them from rain and encourage dormancy. As summer approaches, remove the pot from its current location and store it in a cool, well-ventilated place. In early September, when the weather starts to cool down, you can carefully dig up the thick, healthy bulbs. The number of bulbs you plant depends on the pot size: for an 18 cm pot, plant 1–2 bulbs; for pots between 21–24 cm, plant 2–3; and for 27–30 cm pots, plant 3–4. Use a slightly deeper potting mix, water thoroughly after planting, and within about 10 days, new leaves should start to emerge. Calla lilies require plenty of sunlight and regular fertilization. During the growing season, place them in a sunny spot and apply fertilizer every 10 days or so. To encourage bud formation, add a phosphate-rich fertilizer in February. These plants prefer warm temperatures and are sensitive to cold. Water regularly during the growing season to prevent the soil from drying out completely. By late October, as temperatures drop, bring the plants indoors to a bright, sunny location. With proper care, calla lilies will produce pure white blooms again in the spring, bringing beauty and elegance to your garden or home.
