According to Xinhua News Agency, Guiyang, July 26 (Reporter Zhou Furong) — During the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period, Guizhou Province plans to focus on developing four key crop varieties: rice, corn, potatoes, and rapeseed. The provincial science and technology department will implement a major agricultural technology project aimed at improving productivity and sustainability through advanced research and technical support.
The initiative includes selecting over 50,000 high-yield rice varieties capable of producing more than 850 kilograms per mu. Additionally, 3 to 5 new corn varieties with high yield and quality, suitable for low-productivity areas, will be introduced. For maize, the goal is to develop 850 kg-per-mu super varieties, along with 10 high-quality and high-yield options tailored for less fertile lands.
In the potato sector, six to eight new varieties will be selected, focusing on strong disease resistance and adaptability to different ecological zones. For rapeseed, the plan includes 11 to 15 new high-yield varieties, each producing 300 kg per mu, as well as three specialized types—high-yield, high-oil, and high-protein—as well as varieties that perform well in medium and low-yield fields.
This comprehensive strategy aims to boost agricultural output, improve food security, and support farmers across Guizhou by providing them with better seeds and scientific guidance. The project reflects the province’s commitment to modernizing agriculture and ensuring long-term rural development.
