Research on Healthy Culture of Crocodile

Crocodiles are highly valuable wild animals, offering significant research, ecological, and economic benefits. Classified under the order Crocodilia, they include three species, eight genera, and 23 distinct types worldwide. These creatures are not only rich in nutrients but also have a wide range of medicinal applications. Their meat, bones, organs, and bile are all utilized for their health benefits. For example, crocodile bile is known for detoxification, reducing fever, and improving metabolism, making it effective in treating various conditions such as liver cancer, bladder cancer, and food poisoning. In particular, it has shown promising results in treating fatty liver and liver cirrhosis. Thailand, a major crocodile farming country, highly values crocodile gallbladder for its effectiveness in addressing female infertility and irregular menstruation. The crocodile liver helps improve blood circulation, nourish the liver, and enhance vision, making it useful in treating cataracts and vision loss. The heart supports cardiovascular health by promoting blood flow and aiding in the treatment of angina and coronary diseases. Crocodile bone is used to treat rheumatic pain, while crocodile powder, rich in calcium and phosphorus, helps prevent osteoporosis and calcium deficiency in children. Additionally, crocodile tail rubber boosts cellular vitality, enhances skin elasticity, reduces wrinkles, and helps manage allergies. Despite their popularity, crocodile farming faces challenges due to poor water quality, substandard feed, and improper management, which can affect the quality of the meat and even lead to unpleasant odors. To address these issues, Zhenshan Crocodile Breeding Co., Ltd. and Sihui City Science and Technology Demonstration Yard launched a research project on healthy crocodile farming since 2002. The goal was to develop sustainable and safe methods to produce high-quality, non-polluting crocodile products that meet international food safety standards. The breeding base is located in the Zhenshan Tourist Area of Sihui City, Guangdong Province, covering 400 acres. During the project, all crocodiles were fed with self-bred, fresh fish such as tilapia, oysters, and quail. Fish ponds were regularly refilled with mountain spring water from Zhenshan Mountain, ensuring clean and pollution-free conditions. The results showed that the crocodile meat was flavorful, tender, and met all food hygiene and safety requirements. It also had high yields and strong economic returns. Key aspects of the project included site selection, pond construction, species choice, water quality control, fry selection, feeding strategies, and daily management. The location was chosen for its pristine environment, free from industrial and agricultural pollution. Ponds were designed with optimal water depth and structure to support crocodile growth. Feed fish were raised in separate ponds using organic and natural feeds, ensuring high-quality nutrition. Strict monitoring and management practices were implemented, including regular water testing, disease prevention, and controlled use of feed and medication. The success of this project demonstrated that with proper planning, environmental care, and scientific management, crocodile farming can be both profitable and sustainable. The final product not only meets global food safety standards but also provides consumers with nutritious and high-quality meat. This model serves as an excellent example of how responsible aquaculture can benefit both the environment and human health.
