After the autumn and winter cultivation of celery in the greenhouse, the temperature gradually rises, sunlight becomes more abundant, and soil evaporation increases significantly. Two to three days after planting, it's important to water the plants twice to help the seedlings establish themselves and encourage new growth. As the heart of the celery leaves turns green, it indicates that the seedling stage is coming to an end. At this point, watering should be carefully controlled, and the seedlings should be protected for about 7 to 10 days to ensure their stability.
Once the leaves start to fully unfold, it's time to stop watering for a while. After the soil dries out, you should water it only when needed, typically every 4 to 6 days. After each irrigation, make sure to loosen the soil to improve aeration and prevent compaction. When the plants reach a height of 33 to 35 centimeters, increase the frequency of watering and maintain consistently moist soil.
To support healthy growth, apply 100 to 200 kilograms of bean cake per 667 square meters, or alternatively, use 10 kilograms of urea or 15 kilograms of ammonium sulfate mixed with water. Additionally, apply 15 kilograms of potassium sulfate or other potassium fertilizers to ensure balanced nutrition. In early November, pour one frozen water to prepare the plants for colder weather. Once the soil becomes dry, you can reduce watering frequency, depending on the climate conditions.
Celery has strong cold resistance. If the temperature drops below 0°C, the stems and leaves may freeze, but they can still recover once the temperature rises. After harvesting the autumn and winter greenhouse celery, the temperature gradually decreases. To promote optimal growth, maintain daytime temperatures between 18-22°C, nighttime temperatures between 13-18°C, and keep the soil temperature around 15-20°C. Depending on local climate conditions, different regions should choose the right time to remove the plastic cover.
After the first frost, when daytime temperatures drop to around 10°C, and nighttime temperatures fall below 5°C, it’s time to cover the front roof of the greenhouse with plastic film. In the northeastern region, this usually occurs around mid-October. Monitoring the weather closely and adjusting greenhouse conditions accordingly will help ensure the health and productivity of your celery crop.
