July Grapevine Management Technology

Grapevine Management in July: 1. Top-dressing irrigation. In mid to early July, apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. You can use 200 to 300 grams of potassium sulfate per plant. After applying the fertilizer, water the plants thoroughly. However, if heavy rain occurs, avoid additional irrigation and ensure proper drainage to prevent waterlogging.

2. Pest and disease control. Common issues include white rot, anthracnose, black spot, and downy mildew. In early July, spray with DuPont EPC at a 1200-fold dilution or 70% EDPH at 500-fold, combined with Guoba. Be sure to reapply after rainfall. In mid-July and late July, spray again with DuPont Yi Bao at 1200 times dilution. For orchards affected by white rot, alternate between a special solution diluted 800 times and Bordeaux mixture every 10 days. If downy mildew appears during this period, it's best to use DuPont products to protect the fruit and keep the surface clean and uncontaminated.

3. Early ripening grape harvesting. Two weeks before harvest, control watering to improve fruit quality. Remove old leaves near the clusters before the berries start to ripen to enhance air circulation and sunlight exposure, which helps in color development. Harvest in batches when the grapes are fully mature, ideally in the morning or evening to avoid heat stress.

4. Summer pruning. In late July, perform topping on developing shoots, preparatory branches, and any remaining sprouts. Typically, cut back about 30 cm from the tip. Also, pinch back the tips to leave 1-2 leaves, and remove tendrils. Avoid pruning on rainy days or on young trees. Later, you can manually remove any diseased fruits or leaves. Regular inspections are important to maintain vine health and prevent disease spread.
