Prevention and cure of gentian stalk rot in grassland

The symptoms of the disease are characterized by discoloration and decay on the stem. The infection progresses along the stem, and pinkish spore masses develop at the site of the rot. This condition is caused by *Fusarium roseum* (Link), also known as *Fusarium erythraeum*. To manage this disease effectively, several control measures should be implemented. First, practicing crop rotation for more than three years can significantly reduce the risk of infection. It is also recommended to use fully decomposed organic manure and apply balanced fertilization techniques, with an emphasis on increasing potassium levels to enhance the plant's natural resistance to disease. Second, it is important to use new or disinfected soil for seedlings or planting beds. A common method involves mixing 5–10% carbendazim wettable powder into the soil at a rate of 4–5 kg per square meter. After thorough mixing, one-third of the treated soil is placed on the surface of the seedbed, followed by sowing the seeds and covering them with the remaining soil. Third, early intervention is crucial. At the onset of symptoms, spray a 500-fold dilution of 50% carbendazim wettable powder or 36% thiophanate suspension. In addition, root irrigation using 10% double-effect Lingshui or 12.5% synergistic carbendazim solution diluted 200 times is recommended. Each planting hole should be filled with 100 ml of the solution, and the treatment should be repeated every 7–10 days for 3–4 consecutive applications. By combining these preventive and curative strategies, the spread of the disease can be effectively controlled, ensuring healthier growth and higher yields.
