By choosing local, we’re able to enjoy top-notch, real food at fair prices while also helping Ozarks farmers thrive, strengthening our local economy, and reducing our environmental footprint. When it comes to local food, there are two main categories: 1. **Locally Grown** This refers to food that’s cultivated and harvested right in your community—or made from ingredients that are. None of it travels a long way to get to you. (For example: locally grown produce.) Whenever possible, opt for fresh food produced right in your area. This simple choice has positive impacts on your health, the economy, and the environment. Eating seasonal foods aligns with nature’s nutrient cycles—think hydrating berries in summer, hearty squashes in fall, immunity-boosting citrus in winter, and detoxifying greens in spring. 2. **Locally Sourced or Locally Made** This applies to prepared foods or other items crafted by someone in your local area, even if some of the ingredients come from further away. (Think locally roasted coffee.) If you can’t find a locally grown version of something you need, purchasing locally sourced goods is still a great way to keep your money within the community.
