When it comes to local food, there are two main categories: 1. **Locally Grown** This refers to food that’s cultivated and harvested right in your community—or made from components that are. None of this food travels far to reach you. (For instance: locally grown produce.) Whenever possible, try to enjoy fresh, seasonal food that’s produced close to home. It’s good for your health, the economy, and the planet. Eating according to the seasons aligns with nature’s nutrient cycles—like enjoying hydrating berries in summer, hearty squash in fall, immunity-boosting citrus in winter, and cleansing greens in spring. 2. **Locally Sourced or Locally Made** This applies to prepared foods or other products crafted by individuals or businesses within your community. Some—or even all—of these items might originate from elsewhere, like a different state or even a different country. (Example: locally roasted coffee.) If you can’t find a locally grown alternative for something you need, consider opting for locally sourced goods instead. This way, you’re still keeping your money within the community, supporting local jobs, encouraging unique products, and fostering a vibrant, culturally rich area.
