July Grapevine Management Technology

Grapevine care in July includes top-dressing irrigation. During mid to early July, apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, with each application of 200 to 300 grams of potassium sulfate. After applying the fertilizer, water the plants, but avoid irrigation if heavy rain is expected. Ensure proper drainage to prevent waterlogging.

Pest and disease control is crucial during this period. Common issues include white rot, anthracnose, black spot, and downy mildew. In early July, spray with DuPont EPC at a 1200-fold dilution, or 70% EDPH at 500-fold, or 75% chlorothalonil at 600-fold, combined with Guoba. Make sure to reapply after rainfall. In mid-July and late July, spray again with DuPont Yi Bao at 1200 times. For white rot, alternate between a special solution at 800 times and Bordeaux mixture every 10 days. If downy mildew appears, use DuPont products to prevent infection and ensure the fruit surface remains clean.

Early ripening grapes should be harvested. Two weeks before harvest, reduce watering to improve fruit quality. Remove old leaves near the grape clusters before the berries start ripening to enhance air circulation and sunlight exposure, which helps with color development. Harvest in batches when the grapes are fully mature, ideally in the morning or evening to avoid heat stress.

Summer pruning is also important. By late July, trim the developing branches, preparation branches, and any remaining shoots by about 30 cm. Pinch back the tips, leaving 1-2 leaves, and remove tendrils. This should be done on dry days, especially for young trees. Regularly inspect the vines, and promptly remove any diseased fruits or leaves to prevent the spread of disease. Proper maintenance during this time ensures healthier plants and better yields.
