Actinolite is a silicate mineral. It is a mineral in which more than 2% of the magnesium ions in tremolite are replaced by divalent iron ions. It is also a member of the series of amphiboles. Such minerals are often called Amphibolite asbestos. The actinolite crystals are long columnar, acicular or hairlike. The color is from pale green to dark green. With a shiny glass. Transparent to opaque. The aggregates of crystals are irregular blocks, oblong bars or short columns. Different sizes. White, light gray or light green white with silky sheen. Hard and brittle, and some loose. The fractured section is not even, and the section shows fibrous or thin columnar.

Microscopically, the basic features are light green, weak polychromatic, median-high projection, hornblende cleavage and extinction, and secondary interference color and positive edge.
