Fish nutrition is a critical factor in aquaculture, as the health, growth, and productivity of farmed fish depend heavily on the quality and composition of their feed. The nutritional requirements of fish vary significantly depending on species, life stage, environmental conditions, and feeding behavior. Understanding these needs helps in formulating balanced and effective fish diets.
Feed formulas are designed to meet the specific dietary needs of different fish species. Here are some commonly used fish feed formulations:
(1) Shepherd’s compound feed: This formula includes 35% fishmeal, 47.5% soybean cake, 15% barley, 1% yeast, 1.5% minerals, and added vitamins. It has a feed conversion ratio (FCR) of 2.26, making it suitable for various fish types.
(2) Grass carp and bighead carp feed: Composed of 5% fishmeal, 33% soybean cake, 26% wheat bran, 12% starch meal, 7% pine needle powder, 2% minerals, and 1% oil meal, this mix provides 25% crude protein with an FCR of 2.1.
(3) Carp feed formula: This blend contains 5% mussel flour, 30% Peruvian fish flour, 15% soybean cake, 40% bran, 10% barley, and 1-2% vitamins and minerals. It delivers 28-36% crude protein and has an FCR ranging from 1.83 to 1.92, ideal for carp farming.
(4) Tilapia compound feed: Made up of 30% wheat bran, 35% soybean cake, 15% fishmeal, 5% corn flour, 5% eucalyptus leaf powder, 8.5% barley, 1% auxin, and 0.5% salt, this formula offers 34.6% crude protein and an FCR of 2.03, supporting efficient tilapia growth.
(5) True Quen feed: A high-protein formulation consisting of 50% fishmeal, 25% peanut cake, 12% wheat flour, 5% bran, 5% fish oil, 1% vitamins, and 3% minerals. It is particularly beneficial for carnivorous fish species.
These formulas can be adjusted based on local availability of ingredients, water quality, and fish performance. Proper nutrition not only improves growth rates but also enhances disease resistance and overall fish welfare. Regular monitoring and adjustments are essential to ensure optimal results in fish farming operations.
Animal extracts are made from animal bodies or animal tissues or organs by extraction and boiling with mild enzyme, then concentrated and spray dried into meat extracts. They are a new industry that corresponds to plant extracts. Formerly, they are commonly used as raw products and biochemical raw materials. Its main categories are: amino acids, peptides, proteins, enzymes and coenzymes, polysaccharides, lipids, nucleic acids and their derivatives. The biggest characteristic is that it can dissolve into water. Natural chicken extract, natural pork extract, natural beef extract, natural seafood extract. There are many kinds of seafood, such as shrimp, oyster, abalone, squid, tilapia, crab and so on.
