Technical method of fermenting dairy cows by chicken manure

Chicken manure is not just waste; it contains a mix of undigested feed, feathers, wood shavings, and small amounts of broken egg material. The dry matter of chicken manure has a crude protein content ranging from 31% to 33%, but more than half of this is non-protein nitrogen, including substances like uric acid, urea, creatine, and ammonia. In addition, it also contains some crude fiber from the bedding materials. This makes chicken manure a valuable resource for livestock feed, especially for dairy cows. It serves as an excellent raw material when combined with pellet feeds. Using chicken manure in feed formulation offers an affordable and sustainable solution for farmers. By integrating poultry and cattle farming, it creates a beneficial ecological cycle that supports both industries. However, raw chicken manure should not be directly fed to cows because it may contain parasite eggs, harmful bacteria, and other pathogens. Therefore, it must be properly processed before being used as animal feed. To prepare it for use, chicken manure (around 50%) is mixed with corn flour, soybean meal, rapeseed cake, and bran. A starter culture, such as Golden Baby II, is then added. Water is adjusted to about 60% moisture content, and after 3–4 days of fermentation, the mixture becomes safe and nutritious. It can then be pelleted for easier feeding. Feeding dairy cows with this fermented pellet feed significantly reduces feed costs—only 0.15–0.20 yuan per kilogram of feed. This can cut feed expenses by over 50%, while also boosting milk production. This method not only improves profitability but also promotes environmental sustainability through waste recycling.
