Genetically modified technology: Super oil rape, allowing energy to grow "long" from the ground

Dr. Chen Jinqing, director of the Institute of Virology and Biotechnology of Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, recently paid close attention to the trend of international oil prices. He clearly knew that a week ago, crude oil prices in international markets exceeded US$60 per barrel. As an expert in GM research, he is concerned about the price of oil for a reason. Currently, the super-oil rape researched by Chen Jinqing is a kind of energy rape. Through vegetable enzymatic decomposition and methyl esterification, vegetable oil extracted from rape can be converted into liquid fuel and become a substitute for diesel oil. The world’s energy shortages and rising oil prices have provided opportunities for the development of bioenergy. Transgenic creation of "super-oil rape" Super-oil rape is the second generation of genetically modified crops. The first generation of genetically modified crops is mainly a change in biological input traits. For example, genetically modified insect-resistant cotton currently planted in large areas in Henan, Hebei, and other places is the trait of applying "transgenic" technology to cotton to "input" insect resistance, and some disease resistance and resistance Herbicides and anti-reverse (Saline, Cold, Frozen, Drought) products fall into this category. The second generation of transgenic crops is a change in the output traits, through the use of transgenic technology to enhance or improve plant quality, such as protein, sugar, fat, vitamins and other quality improvement or content increase. Currently, the 14-person research team headed by Chen Jinqing is using genetically modified technology to increase the oil content of rape. In the Yangtze River basin in China, the oil content of rapeseed is basically between 37% and 43%, while the oil content of "Zhaoyou 2" cultivated by the research group Chen Jinqing has reached 52.82%. Chen Jinqing introduced that they wanted to increase the oil content of rapeseeds to 60%. To achieve this goal, there are three main ideas, one is "blocking", that is blocking the distribution of photosynthetic products to protein, starch and other metabolic pathways, so that more substrates (that is, raw materials for biosynthesis of various components) Used for oil synthesis to increase oil content. The second method is called "pulling", which pulls the photosynthetic product to the oil synthesis pathway. The third method, called "expansion," enhances the fat content by preventing cracking and prolonging the oil synthesis time. Through the combined use of these methods, the oil content of “super oil rape” has further increased to 54.8%. Vegetable oil is becoming a more economical energy plant because of the change in vegetable oil to biofuels, which makes oilseeds a more economical energy plant. Dr. Chen Jinqing’s dream is to one day be able to plant super-oilseed rape on a large area in our country’s land and “build” an inexhaustible “green oil field”. . The realization of this dream has already had many favorable conditions. For example, rape can be adapted to a wide range of areas, the Yangtze River, Huanghuai River basin, northwest, northeast and other vast areas are suitable for rapeseed growth, only the Yangtze River basin and Huanghuai area suitable winter rapeseed paddy fields have more than 300 million acres. Another example is that rapeseed in the Yangtze River valley and Huanghuai area is winter rape, which makes full use of the winter season of arable land. In addition, the technology of cooking oil to biodiesel has matured abroad. Many years ago, Germany began to incorporate biodiesel into regular diesel, and about 5% of biodiesel was used in diesel fuel that was filled at the gas station. Since biodiesel emits more than half of the harmful gas that is common diesel, does not contain sulfur, and does not pollute groundwater, Germany has also established a tax-free policy for the biodiesel industry that makes biodiesel competitive in price. The EU attaches great importance to the development of the bio-energy industry. The European Union stipulates that by 2010, 5.7% of the European fuel will be replaced by biodiesel. However, there are quite a few "roadblockers" to develop this kind of green renewable energy. Chen Jinqing said that the main reason is that the cost is too high. The extraction process of biodiesel is complicated and energy is consumed. Finally, the unusable part is wasted too much. The project headed by Chen Jinqing is overcoming these difficulties. In order to reduce costs, on the one hand, it is necessary to increase the oil content of rapeseed and increase the yield per mu of rape; on the other hand, it is necessary to increase the use value of the by-product rapeseed meal. This can make the farmers who grow rapeseed profitable, and the enterprises that invest in bioenergy will not lose money. . In addition, they want to “input” some salt-resistant, high-temperature-resistant drought-resistant, pest-resistant “gene aggregates” in oilseed rape so that rape can be grown on saline land and wasteland on a large scale, and fertilizers and pesticides are less used. What is bio-diesel? Biodiesel is a renewable energy source that uses oil-containing plants or animal oils as raw materials and is a premium alternative to petroleum and diesel. Compared with traditional diesel oil, it has good lubricating properties, safe storage, transportation, and use, good anti-knocking performance, and good combustion performance. At present, most countries in the world use 20% biodiesel and 80% petroleum diesel for compounding. They can be used in any diesel engine and directly utilize existing oil storage, transportation and distribution facilities.

Ginger is cultivated in the tropical parts of  the southest Asia since in earlier times with the warm, wet climate, cold tolerance and drought resistant ability of ginger is weak, so it only can grow in frost-free period. The most appropriate temperature is in 25 Celsius~between 28 Celsius. With favorable light and moisture conditions a plant grows at greatest rapidity if there is the optimum temperature for it. The grow of New crop ginger is finished in October each year, we can supply it from December to November next year. We would be pleased to serve you if you are interest in it.Except Fresh Ginger ,we also supplied  Air Dried Ginger Fresh Garlic , Fresh Onion , Peeled Onion , Fresh Chestnut , Sweet Corn , Fresh Taro , Fresh Potato , Fresh Baby Mandarin, Fresh Red Grape, Fresh Pomelo , Fresh Ya Pear Chaotian Chili , Paprika Powder , Fresh Apple and so on.
