The Prevention and Control of Main Diseases and Pests of Green Pepper in Fruiting Stage

Green peppers are highly susceptible to diseases and pests during the fruiting stage due to high temperatures and frequent rainfall. Common issues include fungal infections like anthracnose, root rot, gray mold, viral diseases, as well as insect pests such as tobacco budworms, Spodoptera litura, and aphids. To minimize losses and maintain quality, it's essential to implement effective and safe pest and disease management strategies during this critical period. The key principle in managing these problems is prevention. As the plants enter the fruit-setting phase, focus should be on early detection and control of diseases like gray mold and anthracnose, while also addressing root rot. Viral diseases are often spread by insects, so controlling vectors like aphids and whiteflies is crucial. For pests, targeting them in their early larval stages—usually 1st or 2nd instar—is most effective. When applying treatments, it's important to mix no more than three types of agents at a time, using accurate dosages. Applications should be done in the early morning before 10 AM or in the late afternoon after 4 PM to avoid heat stress and ensure better absorption. For disease prevention, chlorothalonil diluted at 600 times can be applied every 15 days. Controlling irrigation by watering less frequently and using small amounts of water can also help reduce humidity, which is favorable for fungal growth. In the early stages of anthracnose, Shigao (1500 times dilution) or Jin Lei Duomi (600 times) can be used, along with Kelu (800 times). Root rot and blight can be managed with Jin Lei Dormyr through irrigation. To prevent viral diseases, controlling aphids and whiteflies with products like Aketai or imidacloprid is essential. Early viral infections can be treated with plant-based solutions like Plant Disease or Quick Retreat Virus. Additionally, Amisidae diluted at 1500 times has proven effective in controlling most fungal diseases, significantly increasing yield and improving fruit quality while promoting plant health. For insect pests like Spodoptera litura and tobacco budworms, applications of Azithium salt or methomyl during the early larval stage can provide good control. Regular monitoring and timely intervention are key to maintaining a healthy crop throughout the fruiting season.
