Summer eggplant top dressing attention issues

As the old saying goes, "No harvest without income, and less income comes from poor fertilizer." For eggplants to produce a high yield, they must be well-fed. But how do you ensure your eggplants get the right nutrition during the hot summer months? Here’s what you need to know: 1. **Right Amount** Eggplants require a lot of nitrogen, but in summer, it's important not to overdo it. Urea application per acre should generally be limited to 30 kilograms. During the high-temperature season, urea breaks down quickly in the soil. Once the plants absorb what they need, the excess can be lost, especially in sandy soils where leaching is more common. Similarly, ammonium bicarbonate should not exceed 40 kg per acre. Too much can lead to nutrient loss and even ammonia damage to the leaves and fruits. 2. **Proper Method** Many farmers like to apply chemical fertilizers with irrigation water, but this method isn't ideal in the summer heat. High temperatures cause a lot of ammonia to volatilize, reducing the fertilizer’s effectiveness. Ammonium bicarbonate, in particular, can easily cause ammonia poisoning in eggplants. The best approach is to use furrow or hole application. After top-dressing, make sure the soil covering the fertilizer is at least 5 cm thick to minimize nutrient loss due to evaporation. 3. **Balanced Combination** Although eggplants need a lot of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium are equally important. You shouldn’t rely solely on nitrogen-based fertilizers every time. During the fruiting stage, it's recommended to apply a balanced compound fertilizer twice, with a total of at least 40 kg per mu (approximately 667 square meters) to support healthy growth and maximize yield. By following these guidelines, you can ensure your eggplants receive the proper nutrients without risking damage or waste. Summer fertilization requires careful planning and execution—get it right, and your harvest will thank you.
