Morphological characteristics:
Evergreen grasses are perennial. The stem is very short. Leaves broadly lanceolate, cuspidate, margin serrulate, hard leathery, bright green, with a thick cuticle and absorption scales on the surface. The leaves rotate from the rhizomes to a rosette, the base is rosette-like, and the center is tubular. The leaf cylinder can hold water without leaking, resembling a water tower, so it is named "water tower flower". Spikes erect, taller than leaves, bracts pink, corolla scarlet, petals rolled, purple edges. More than winter and spring flowers.
A flower-like variant of the water tower is the var. concolor, which is similar to the water tower flower but its petals and sepals are red.
Striped water tower flowers (var.strata) with yellowish-yellow-green lines on the leaves.
